California Vacation Part 2

Love vacations! We went to the beach three days.  Liza reminded us again that she is her own person.  Where Alison and Stuart were overly-cautious, not ever really touching the ocean until they were 4, Lu walks in until waves knock her over, stays till she’s freezing, then gets out, warms up, and repeats.  We swam in pools, toured the Midway aircraft carrier, went to an aquarium, walked around San Diego a lot, rode scooters, took naps (well, one of us did), turned 29, dropped cell phones from 16 floor buildings, flew our kite a lot, and generally had a lovely time together.IMG_6164 IMG_6171 IMG_6191 IMG_6197 IMG_6200 IMG_6201 IMG_6214 IMG_6221 IMG_6230

California Vacation Post 1

It is a long long ways to California from Utah with three kids.  Our sweet Liza can be a little bit trying to be in a car with.  For a long time (and still occasionally), she would torture Stuart who has to sit by her.  They both have to sit by her—we’re three across but she doesn’t bug Alison.  We were all happy to finally arrive at the coast and stretch our legs.  IMG_6072 IMG_6074 IMG_6077 IMG_6083 We spent the 4th at Legoland.  The kids of course loved it.  The adults got to be escorted on a lot of rides as our littles are too short to ride almost anything alone.  Liza was ticked because she was too short for anything.  She would wave goodbye to me and then try to squeeze through the gates.  Poor kid.  IMG_6088 IMG_6090 IMG_6094 IMG_6107 This was our family’s firetruck.  It was a race against three other families to complete the rescue.  IMG_6114 You can tell that Alison really took the racing seriously.  IMG_6115 IMG_6118 IMG_6123 We even found a princess, who knew. IMG_6129 IMG_6135 Alison tried a lot of rides that I wouldn’t expect her to.  She gets motion sickness really bad, really easily.  She was so worried about this one but tried it anyhow and found that she survived.  She even went with Stuart again alone the second time.IMG_6146 IMG_6154 The place is insane, made of millions of legos.  IMG_6159

Ragnar Wasatch Back

Ryan and I decided to begin training in January for this little race called the Wasatch Back.  He had talked to somebody who told him about this 200 mile relay, starting in Logan and ending in Park City, traversing the mountains of the Wasatch range, and running consecutively through 30+ hours.  The 12 team members live in team vans and provide the support, doing a lot of everything besides sleeping.  They asked if we were interested in joining.  Were we runners?  No.  Had we ever run?  No.  Did that sound fun?  Uh, sure!

Ryan was excused because his ankle looked like this (soccer injury).  IMG_5844 IMG_5850 I joined Van 2 as runner 8.  The company was good.  IMG_5855 The scenery was perfect.IMG_5862 There was a teensy bit of relaxation.IMG_5878

There was terrific (or terrifying, depending on what mode of transportation you were using) mountain passes.IMG_5919IMG_5909..and snow. IMG_5931 There was family.IMG_5942 Unbelievable  style. IMG_5980…and enthusiasm (G-rated version).  IMG_5861

And a whole lot of running.

Good time team!  Until 2012.IMG_5963
